Our client

Space Plus, an innovative self-storage business developed by investors MARCOL and Angelo Gordon, backed by €250M of funding, wanted to build self-storage units that were as automated as possible. This meant an entirely digital workflow, from searching and selecting the correct unit size, reserving units, and paying, through to the delivery of digital keys to the customers' mobile device to allow access to the facilities and their units.

About the project

Working directly with the investors and the Space Plus c-suite, Devico were accountable for the overall technical concept, the design and the implementation of the Space Plus solution. We built a self-contained, highly autonomous team of business analysts, UI and UX specialists, developers and testers to create the first generation of the Space Plus technology platform.

Our engagement

Devico designed a hybrid platform which would cope with the highly bespoke nature of the solution but allow for seamless integration with commercial, off the shelf products. As a pan-European business, Space Plus demanded the correct technical environment for full internationalization had to be part of the platform DNA from day one.

A unique web application was developed for customer funnel, workflow, and storage units identification/selection. As a foundation, Next.js was chosen for performance and SEO needs, critical for driving traffic to the platform. A custom Next.js server was developed to proxy traffic and optimize data from the various API endpoints.

With the customer and their needs at the heart of the system, our integration with Store365, an industry leading CRM, allowed us to control the customer workflow and understand the customers status. For the customers convenience, we offered multiple payment types (Paypal, AmazonPay, Sofort and others) through a single integration with Adyen, which also lowered the abandonment risk at the point of conversion.

Finally, integration with Sensorberg, who supplied the underlying IoT platform, provided the bridge between the customer and their interaction with the physical premises, allowing customers to access their units through digital keys.
